Matthew 8:1-4

When Jesus came down from the mountainside, large crowds followed him.A man with leprosy[a] came and knelt before him and said, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.”
Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” Immediately he was cleansed of his leprosy. Then Jesus said to him,“See that you don’t tell anyone. But go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.”

  1. Questions:

    - Why was Jesus able to do miracles like this?

  2. My 2 cents:

I'm having difficulties finding articles addressing this.

Notice that Jesus touched the leper. Was He being careless? Did the spirit tell Him that He wouldn't get sick? Was He immune? Could He heal Himself? Did Jesus ever have a cold? I can't speculate. I don't know.

We do know that Jesus touched someone it was not legal for Him to touch. Mark describes Jesus as being indignant. I think this may be the reason why - the law and it's injustice. Jesus loves us so much that He is willing to touch us while we are still dirty - and we are way dirtier compared to Him now than the leper was.

So why did Jesus tell the leper to not tell anyone? We can speculate that it would have become a circus otherwise. Why didn't Jesus want that? Was He sensitive at that moment to people wanting to force Him to be king? Or was it for the leper's sake that Jesus didn't want him to tell anyone?

    More questions than answers here.

    1. Correction: Our hearts are way dirtier than the leper's physical condition, yet Jesus was willing to touch us and make us clean. Jesus was clean and sinless then as He is now. It sounded like I was saying that Jesus was closer to impure than He is now, which was not my intent.
